ABOUT LEAH
My name is Leah Singer and I’m a freelance writer and editor. I’m known for uncovering unique angles and hidden gems, and then creating clear and compelling communication that creates impact.
As a Terre Haute, Indiana transplant from San Diego, California, I write stories about life “in the middle” to help people understand individuals living in Middle America and outside the coastal bubble.
How did I go from the Pacific Ocean to the Midwest? Read all about that here.
If you want to really know me, read this post. If you want to know why I write, this post explains it best.
I am the former managing editor of the Red Tricycle Spoke Contributor Network and San Diego city editor. My writing has appeared in USA Today, Indianapolis Star (IndyStar), Huffington Post, The Good Men Project, Edible Indy, Terre Haute Living and Tribune-Star, Babble, Scary Mommy, Red Tricycle, Today Parenting, and many other national blogs and websites. You can find all my published work here.
In addition to writing, I worked as a marketing instructor at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising where I taught college students real-world applications of marketing communications and brand management. I also worked extensively in higher education, including as a speechwriter and communications manager for two college presidents at San Diego’s largest public university. And I had the pleasure of working at KPBS public broadcasting station. If you want more details on those jobs, my LinkedIn profile is the place to go.
When I’m not working, I enjoy running, spending time in nature, reading, writing, binge-watching television shows, photography, and exploring my adopted home of Indiana.
Leah’s Thoughts is a way for me to journal, share ideas, essays, musings, frustrations, recipes, funny stories, and – most importantly – exercise my lifelong passion of writing.

Gave you credit in my post today for suggesting Sunshine.
Leah, I adore the way you write. So free flowing and easy. You create word pictures that trigger memories of my own. I especially like your stories about the earliest memory of the quilt and your interfaith wedding. I would love to stay in touch with you. I am writing my first non-fiction book, although I have published book reviews before. I am also a member of SheWrites.
Thank you so much! Looking forward to reading more from you too!

… I felt like I was in the store with you.
Hi Leah,
I saw your picture of the Witches Cottage for Halloween decor. I have just found the exact same item in our local thrift shop. There seems to be a missing part on the top of the roof, because there is a sharp wire attached in the opening. Would you know what should be attached to it? Maybe something spinning from the heat of the candle?
Thank you in advance,
Happy Halloween!
Marjolein
Hi Marjolein. Thanks for reading! There’s a little metal star topper that goes on the top. The heat from the candle is supposed to make it spin. It’s never actually done that on mine, but it’s cute anyway.
Your site is awesome! I am the founder of https://www.themealkitreview.com- maybe we can cooperate together?
Thanks,
Lee
Sure! Send me an email.
I am considering creating a blog page, too. I live in Terre Haute. I would like to learn more about this process and wonder whether I could perhaps meet with you and get some advice.
