Well my friends, it was time.

Time for Sophie to get her first major haircut. After nearly four years, it was time to trim Rapunzel’s golden curly locks for a cute summer cut (so what if summer’s nearly over).

So I called in Auntie Kayli, the haircut guru. Kayli is my “baby” sister, ten years younger than me. She is a true independent free-spirit.Β  She’s a “board-certified” hair stylist; earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology; owns her own dog-sitting business; has a tattoo of Snoopy on her wrist; and her pet is a rabbit named Sampson. So who better than to give Sophie her inaugural haircut than cool Auntie Kayli?

Here’s the before picture, with Sophie looking a bit nervous.

Look at that beautiful hair! I think I was more upset about cutting it than Sophie was. She was just shy of the “Locks for Love” 10-inch minimum. Otherwise I would have donated the mane.

There it goes…

The results … a cute summer style with freshly-cut bangs that are now out of her face.

Personally, I LOVE it! And more importantly, the little Coppertone Kid loves it too. She looks like such an older kid now! She was so excited to show of her new hair-do to her preschool teachers and friends. My little Sophie is growing up!

  1. Hi Leah! I found you through your post on She Writes. Your daughter looks adorable. Scarily, I’ve been cutting my own hair for years. I may have to call in my own Auntie Kayli. πŸ™‚

  2. My father still talks about he’d take my sons to “Louie” and how fidgety they were getting haircuts. He remembers my brother running out of the barber shop. And you know I have to wait until the grandsons will be 3 before their first haircuts! I think I have a lock of Lydia’s hair somewhere. My sisters and I remember my mother always making us get very short haircuts “pixies” for the summer- which we hated. Great memories!
(did you see my “hair” post?)

  3. What a great ‘do!! It looks wonderful on her, she is blessed with awesome her – what a lucky girl! Love the bangs, your sister did a great job. Enjoy!

  4. Beautiful! Nice that you have such a good connection with your sister. I hope you’ve been styling her hair all along. My girls were a little older than usual when I tried this (probably due to sheer exhaustion) and they wouldn’t let me anywhere near them! Fortunately, they would let my friend…

  5. Adorable! My grand-daughter just had the same thing done! She had long, wavy hair to her hips and it was cut to her shoulders. She LOVED it! She felt so grown up!

  6. Love it! We are about to get our youngest son’s hair cut. Our oldest son had curly locks, so we waited until he was about 10 months old to cut it. We decided (I decided) to do it ourselves, and he looked ridiculous! Wish I’d have had a cool aunt to help us out! We’re taking Evan to the barber’s for sure….

  7. Absolutely darling … and the “before” photo from the back? Looks like a Clairol ad!! I loved the results … but hard not to be cute with such a sweet face πŸ™‚ MJ
